The global movement of people, raw materials and innovations changed our lives for the better and continues to do so. Yet, the pandemic, political upheaval, and resource dependencies pose new challenges to the idea of a collaborative international community.<\/p>\n<p>Cross-border phenomena like (climate) migration and COVID-19 are causing us to rethink established notions of mobility, international trade and work, and the way we treat the environment. They are reminding us that resources are finite, and the global community is vulnerable, raising the question as to what the future of globalisation and exchange will look like. What lessons can be learned from current crises? How can goods and ideas be shared globally in a sustainable, fair and more secure way? What opportunities are inherent in digital infrastructures and services? How should we envision human mobility and migration? How can we respond to increasing political isolationism and nationalist ideologies?<\/p>\n<p>The fifth Communication Lab wants to explore the future of global exchange in its political, social, economic, and ecological dimensions. The jury was impressed by their originality of topics, the appealing way in which facts and storytelling was interwoven as well as the appropriateness in their approach to address their chosen target audience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block block--text  margin-bottom--big\" id=\"block_63c1110c9b2f1\" data-id=\"\">\n\n\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\n\t\t<div class=\"inner max-width\"><h3>Prize winners<\/h3>\n<p>The prizes for the four most successful pieces go to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the journalist\u00a0<strong>Carl Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and the data specialist\u00a0<strong>Mirela Tulbure\u00a0<\/strong>(Center for Geospatial Analytics, North Carolina State University) for their audio documentary &#8220;Meet the communities using their own backyards to try to tame the next big flood&#8221; about grassroot communities that have teamed up with scientists to prevent disastrous flooding.<\/li>\n<li>the journalist\u00a0<strong>Amie Liebovitz\u00a0<\/strong>(BBC) and the sociologist\u00a0<strong>Elisabeth Gruber\u00a0<\/strong>(Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg) for a story pitch about a municipality in Austria that is breaking new ground in helping refugees and integrating them as workforce in the tourism sector.<\/li>\n<li>the journalist\u00a0<strong>Martina Weber<\/strong>\u00a0and the sustainability researcher\u00a0<strong>Veeresh Anehosur<\/strong>\u00a0(Nunam) for their radio play &#8220;The E-E-Room (The Energy-Emergency-Room)&#8221; about the global dimensions of second-life use of lithium batteries.<\/li>\n<li>a special award goes to the journalist\u00a0<strong>Trisha Dantiani\u00a0<\/strong>(CNN Indonesia) and the media scientist\u00a0<strong>Mengdi Tao\u00a0<\/strong>(Tsinghua University, Beijing) for their project &#8220;Refugee Reels&#8221; that examines the experience of young refugees in Indonesia through Instagram.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The journalist Lisbeth Schr\u00f6der and the sociologist Amadeo Gandolfo received an honorary mention for their project &#8220;Drawing for health &#8211; how making a comic can help to cope wtih mental problems&#8221; &#8211; a fanzine combining testimonies by people affected, scientific facts and comics on the topic of mental health problems.<\/p>\n<p>The winning entries are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humboldt-foundation.de\/en\/explore\/organisation\/humboldt-communication-lab\/comlab5-the-new-global-cooperation-for-the-future\">AvH site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":3493,"menu_order":3,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-3521","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
